About WVC Jazz:
Formed in 2006 as a trio, WVC completed its quartet line up with the addition of saxophonist Julian Chan. In 2020, WVC welcome our new drummer Adriel Wong, and reverted back to the trio format. The group has toured extensively in the region, heralding back the spirit being “on the road” of touring jazz bands of old. Through these regional tours, WVC has brought its music to many corners of Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Macau. In one of these tours, the quartet managed to travel extensively over 18 cities and performed 23 concerts within a month, using different means of transportation, playing in many different types of venues. In 2018, WVC traveled the west coast of Malaysia peninsula and completed a ten stops concert tour, fulfilling our aspirations of bringing the music to the people. Ever since, WVC toured Malaysia at least once a year.

About the book:
The Malaysian Real Book represents a groundbreaking initiative to compile, document, transcribe and present a comprehensive repertoire of Malaysian jazz and popular music. It is a community-based project that showcases the rich and diverse heritage of Malaysian music while also highlighting the music of contemporary composers, songwriters and groups. The Real Book offers an anthology of playable sheet music that will benefit music enthusiasts, students and professionals alike.

The project was sparked through the leadership of the Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival (MJPF) Committee, with additional contributions from the extended Malaysian music community. The MJPF Committee was formed in 2013 with the goal of widening the prevalence of Malaysian jazz music and to cultivate a musical community that exemplifies what it means to be “Malaysian”.
