Eliot Weinberger in conversation with Eddin Khoo

Eliot Weinberger is a contemporary American writer, political commentator, essayist, editor, and translator. He is the translator of the poetry of Bei Dao, and the editor of The New Directions Anthology of Classical Chinese Poetry (2003). He is best known as the primary translator of Octavio Paz’s (Nobel prize winning writer, poet and diplomat) works into English. His edition of Jorge Luis Borges’s Selected Non-Fictions (1999) received the National Book Critics Circle prize for criticism. In 1992, he was the first recipient of the PEN/Kolovakos Award for his promotion of Hispanic literature in the United States. In 2000, he became the only American literary writer to be awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle by the Government of Mexico.
