We receive many requests from independent authors and publishers to stock their books with us. If you would like to do the same, please read the following guidelines before making your request.
- We only stock finished, physical books. We do not sell e-books and we will only stock books after we have had a chance to vet and assess finished books.
- We only stock books in English. Lit Books sells only English books and we will not take books written in other languages. Parallel texts are fine.
- In most cases, submitted books will only be sold on a consignment basis. While we would like to support independent authors and publishers, we need to remain sustainable and will only enter into a consignment agreement with new authors in most cases.
- Not every genre of writing works. We highly recommend that authors and publishers visit our shop or check out our offerings online before pitching their work to us. We don’t carry every genre of writing and are unlikely to carry your book if it doesn’t meet our curatorial needs.
- “Vibes only” need not apply. We try to ensure that the books we sell meet a certain standard in terms of language, production quality and overall finish. Books focused on “vibes” only need not apply.
- Language matters. We live in a multicultural society and there are wonderful books written in other languages which we would love to read in English. As such, we make some leeway for translated works in terms of the quality of language but a standard nevertheless applies. We recommend that all authors get a native English reader to take look at your book before submission. Just in case.
