Author Event: Erica Eng (8pm, 1 June 2024)

Join us (8pm, June 1) for an intimate conversation with Erica Eng, who will be talking about her debut graphic novel Fried Rice. Erica is Malaysia’s first Eisner award winner and will be talking with Lit Books’ co-founder Fong Min Hun about the genesis of the book, her work, and just how autobiographical semi-autobiographical really means. Fried Rice is a wonderfully warm book that captures so much of the charm and anxiety of life in a small(ish) Malaysian town.

There will be an audience Q&A as well as a book signing on the evening. Please purchase your tickets early as spaces are limited. Tickets are RM10 and you will receive a RM10 voucher to use on event day.

A young Malaysian girl, Min, dreams of a life of adventure and creativity beyond the comforts of her home. After finishing secondary school, Min spends her holiday with her cousin Lilly in Kuala Lumpur and daydreams of migrating to the United States to work in animation—she submits an application to a prestigious art school in New York. Warm and tender, 𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙚 is a poignant coming-of-age story that captures the anxiety and worries of youth standing at the threshold of adulthood.
